VIDEO: Lions Wideout Jermaine Kearse Suffers Gruesome Leg Injury and Gets Carted off Field
By Michael Luciano
After a down year with the New York Jets in 2018, former Seattle Seahawks star receiver Jermaine Kearse looked to rehab his value with Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions. All of the optimism has come crashing down with an emphatic thud, as Kearse couldn't escape a serious injury in Detroit's preseason opener against the New England Patriots. After sustaining a gnarly leg injury, Kearse was put in an air cast and carted off the field. This video is not for the squeamish!
That is certainly not good. Hopefully the cameras made this injury look worse than it is, but it's not likely. Kearse was doing his duty as a blocker and unfortunately got his leg caught up in the play, resulting in the devastating injury.
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Washington, Kearse played for five seasons in Seattle as the No. 2 receiver to Doug Baldwin, appearing in two Super Bowls and winning one.
The Lions were counting on him to replace the production left by Golden Tate, but his 2019 season will likely be over before it even began.
While it looked gruesome, hopefully the injury isn't as serious as it was on TV and Kearse can bounce back.
