VIDEO: Luis Severino and Dellin Betances Spotted Starting Throwing Program
By Max Scoli
The New York Yankees have been without star pitchers Luis Severino and Dellin Betances for months, but an encouraging video has surfaced showing the two studs starting their respective throwing programs on Monday, the latest step of the long and tedious recovery process.
The Yanks have managed to stay afloat in their absence though, currently sitting at the top of the AL East with a 59-32 record. However, their returns would bring that much more firepower to the world's most successful sports franchise.
Dellin Betances is arguably the best relief pitcher in baseball when healthy. The four-time MLB All-Star is known for his high strikeout rate, already tallying 619 of them thus far in his short time in the league. His effectiveness stems from the variety of pitches he can throw with speed and precision. On average, he throws a 96 mile per hour fastball, an 82 mile per hour slurve, and an 89 mile per hour changeup. These pitches are devastating, but don't take my word for it:
As for Luis Severino, the fastball is his claim to fame. He reaches triple-digit speeds with ease, allowing him to dominate opposing offensive players. Over the course of his career, Severino is 41–25 with a 3.51 ERA and 572 K.
While there is still no timetable for their returns, this is certainly a good sign for the Bronx Bombers.
