VIDEO: Luis Severino Turns up the Heat And Strikes Out Double-A Batter With 97 MPH Fastball
By Jerry Trotta
After a 2019 campaign thats been ravaged by seemingly endless injuries to their biggest stars, the New York Yankees are inching closer to welcoming the return of staff ace Luis Severino, who's currently on a rehab assignment with Double-A Trenton. Just a few days after the two-time All-Star was dazzling the radar gun with 95-plus MPH fastballs, he was up to much of the same in his next outing on Wednesday.
A 97 MPH heater on the outside corner? Somewhere in the Bronx, a large population of Yankees fans are drooling at the mouth.
But that wasn't all Sevy had to offer on the night. Just a few moments later, he fanned another batter with a buoyant slider, giving him four punch-outs through two innings of work.
Thank you, come again.
It's truly on a matter of time until Severino -- who hasn't played a game in Pinstripes this year while working his way back from a lat strain and shoulder inflammation -- is promoted to the big league roster. Hitters in the minor league ranks just don't stand a chance against his stuff.
