VIDEO: Magic Johnson Said Tension With 'Shaggy P' Was the Reason He Traded D'Angelo Russell

Magic Johnson crashed and burned as the president of basketball operations in Los Angeles, with one of his biggest goofs involving trading D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets. Why was he traded? As Magic explained on first take, Russell didn't get along with Nick Young-- who apparently is known as "Shaggy P" now.

Any time you have to choose between a 31-year-old career bench player and noted head case or a budding star point guard who is just 19 years old, always trade the young guy away, right?

After choosing Swaggy P over Russell, all D-Lo did this season was average 21.1 points and 7.0 assists per game while making an All-Star appearance and leading the Nets to the No. 6 seed in the playoffs. Oops.

Magic's interview on ESPN did nothing to help him repair his image. Yes, it crystallized the notion that Rob Pelinka needs to be removed as GM, but Johnson looked every bit the buffoon that he did when he was running the team.
