VIDEO: Manny Machado Calls Out MLB Network Analysts on Instagram Live Over Jake Marisnick Takes
By Sean Facey
Jake Marisnick's collision with Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy, subsequent two-game suspension and plunking has sparked plenty of controversy about discipline in the MLB. There's been much debate over whether or not it was intentional, and Manny Machado in particular seemed frustrated about how people have come to the defense of Marisnick, specifically calling out MLB Network analysts.
"If it was me, I would have gotten probably 20 games," he said in an Instagram livestream. "They threw at his head, how about when I got thrown at my head? Nobody was backing me up, they were saying that I deserved it."
He's probably not too far from the truth on all of this. Though there's plenty of debate of Marisnick's intent, he's right in saying that the league would have thrown the book at him if he was the one who eviscerated Lucroy.
Machado knows his reputation as well as anyone. Fans and analysts view him as a guy who plays the game a bit dirty, and in some regards they're right. But they're subjecting him to a double standard that nobody else in the league is held to.
