VIDEO: Massive Brawl Erupts in Pirates-Reds After Amir Garrett Wildly Charges Pittsburgh Dugout
By Thomas Carannante
Well, Major League Baseball has officially lost it. Just moments after the Cleveland Indians traded Trevor Bauer to the Cincinnati Reds in a blockbuster deal, a brawl erupted between Cincy and the Pittsburgh Pirates for the second time this season. Reds reliever Amir Garrett charged the Pirates' dugout and started throwing fists in an absolutely wild occurrence.
And that's just the START of it. Did Yasiel Puig lose his mind? He sure did. Part II! On the night he got traded!
Here's another view of it all:
How about one more crazy freeze frame?
Tensions were flaring earlier in the game and both dugouts were warned after a pitch was thrown at Derek Dietrich, who famously hit two bombs against the Pirates earlier in the year and showboated a few times. We should've known this was coming.
Side note: WE NEED A MANAGER FIGHT.
So how did this all go down? Dietrich was thrown at by Keone Kela and the dugouts were warned. Reds slugger Joey Votto approached Kela after the inning and exchanged words with him. Then Reds reliever Jared Hughes was ejected in the ninth for throwing at Starling Marte. Then when Amir Garrett came on, words were exchanged between him and the Pirates dugout.
The game was oh-so-close to being finished...and it was a blowout!
