VIDEO: Max Muncy Loses Battle With Sun and Gets Hit in Head by Pop Fly
By Jerry Trotta
Fresh off being named to the National league All-Star roster as an injury replacement, Max Muncy clubbed a 2nd inning home run off Joey Lucchesi on Sunday. However, the good times for the Dodgers first baseman didn't last very long in this one. Less than three innings later, Muncy was forced to stare into the eye of the LA sky to field a monstrous pop-up. Only he couldn't find the ball, losing it in the sun, and it came down and domed him.
Even for trained professionals, fending off the glaring sun in pursuit of the baseball can be a tall task, and for Muncy, it becomes pretty clear about three seconds into the play that he has absolutely no idea where the ball is.
If only he kept his mitt up instead of protecting his head, as he was actually positioned perfectly!
Muncy is best known for his bat, but the Baylor University product is also an extremely accomplished defender. The sun must have been truly blinding for him to pull off a blunder of this magnitude.
