VIDEO: Megan Rapinoe's Penalty Leads the Charge as USWNT Wins 4th World Cup
By Karl Rasmussen
The United States Women's National Team is a force to be reckoned with on the global scene and they proved that yet again in 2019. In the Women's World Cup Final, the USWNT was matched up against the Netherlands. After a scoreless first half, Megan Rapinoe took care of business from the penalty spot, awarded through VAR.
It was Rapinoe's 50th goal on the international stage. Her strike handed the United States a 1-0 lead early on in the second half.
She looked calm, cool and collected from the penalty spot, and honestly, when does Rapinoe ever seem rattled? She's born for the biggest stages and that's exactly why she is the one called up for the clutch kicks.
Their lead was extended when Rose Lavelle beat the keeper on a beautiful strike in the 69th minute, adding some insurance for the United States.
Despite the relentless Dutch pressure, the U.S. was able to hold onto their lead and win their fourth World Cup, capping off an incredible tournament and sensational performance from the squad as a whole.
