VIDEO: Mets Blow 6-Run 9th-Inning Lead in Sad Effort After Kurt Suzuki's Walk-Off HR Lifts Nationals
By Thomas Carannante
There's simply no coming back from this one. The New York Mets used a five-run top of the ninth inning to take a 10-4 lead over the Washington Nationals, but you know how it goes. That wasn't enough for the Mets' bullpen. Seven runs later in the bottom half of the frame, capped off by Kurt Suzuki's epic three-run walk-off homer, and the Mets lose 11-10, effectively blowing yet another Jacob deGrom outing.
Honestly, what can you say? Manager Mickey Callaway finally makes the right call and removes Seth Lugo from the game after his team added a ton of insurance runs, and then the rest of the bullpen gives up SEVEN runs. There's simply no right move this guy can make.
This all started with a Trea Turner RBI double and spiraled out of control after Anthony's Rendon's RBI single and Ryan Zimmerman's pinch-hit two-run double.
That's now TWO epic chokes on the day for the Mets.
