VIDEO: Mets Fans Give Pete Alonso Amazing Standing Ovation as He Exits Final Game of Season
By Chris Pyo
Pete Alonso has had an amazing season for the 2019 Amazin' Mets. Even if they didn't make the playoffs this year, it's been one for the ages for the Polar Bear, who on Saturday broke Aaron Judge's single-season record for home runs by a rookie with his 53rd dinger. And on Sunday, in the Mets' 7-6 extra-inning win against the Atlanta Braves, Alonso was taken out of the game early and received a well-deserved standing ovation from the Citi Field faithful.
That's a fitting scene for the Mets, who nearly snuck into the playoffs this season, but weren't able to pull it out in the end, finishing three games behind the Brewers for the second NL Wild Card spot.
They'll just have to wait until next season to see Alonso hit some more moonshots in attempt to guide the Mets back to the playoffs.
Until then, the Mets seriously have a lot of things to fix this offseason, starting with their management.
