VIDEO: Mets' Pete Alonso Breaks Aaron Judge's Rookie Home Run Record With 53rd Blast of the Year
By Jerry Trotta
Pete Alonso clubbed his 52nd home run of 2019 Friday night off Dallas Keuchel, tying Aaron Judge's record set back in 2017. With just two games left on the schedule heading into Saturday, the feat left Mets fans wondering if the Polar Bear had enough left in the tank to sock one more big fly and have the record all to himself. Well, it's fair to say that he had enough and THEN some as the young phenom MASHED dinger No. 53 of his rookie campaign with a bomb to dead center field.
Alonso was greeted by his teammates outside of the Mets' dugout upon crossing home plate as Citi Field erupted in sheer euphoria.
It's truly no less than he deserved and MLB's home run crown is surely the next triumph on Pete's to-do list.
What a moment for the young slugger.
