VIDEO: Mets' Pete Alonso Draws Walk-off Walk as Phillies Bullpen Embarrassingly Blows it
By Karl Rasmussen
The New York Mets were in dire need of a win on Friday night against their NL East and Wild Card rivals the Philadelphia Phillies. Well, in a game that went down to the wire, the Mets managed to pull off the win in walk-off fashion. Only it wasn't via Pete Alonso's bat that they plated the winning run. Instead, Alonso won them the game by not swinging. Or in other words, the Phillies' bullpen blew yet another game.
Nick Vincent's only action of the night saw him throw a high ball four to Alonso which allowed Juan Lagares to come across for the winning run. No matter who Philly handed the ball off to down the stretch, they couldn't muster up a clean outing.
Vincent was the seventh pitcher used by the Phils in the game, and he had inherited a pretty difficult bases-loaded situation after Mike Morin let up a pair of hits.
The Mets have now drawn even with the Phillies at 72-68.
