VIDEO: Michael Young Gives Heartfelt Rangers Hall of Fame Speech for Surprise Guest Ron Washington
By Scott Rogust
The Texas Rangers and their fans had reason to celebrate on Saturday, and it had nothing to do with their game against the Seattle Mariners. Rather, it involved franchise player Michael Young, who was inducted into the Rangers' Hall of Fame, complete with a pregame ceremony. While giving his speech, Young acknowledged former manager Ron Washington, who appeared as a surprise guest.
The veteran infielder stressed how important the day was for Washington due to him actually missing an MLB game; he's currently the third base coach of the Atlanta Braves.
Washington played an important role in Young's career, as he placed high expectations on him and the entire Rangers team when he arrived as manager. That played a factor in the team reaching the World Series in back-to-back seasons.
While many would point at Michael Young's individual success, the Rangers legend points out that it wouldn't have happened with Ron Washington.
