VIDEO: Mike Ford Extends Yankees' Lead With Solo Shot off Clayton Kershaw
By Sean Facey
Mike Ford is having one zany season. After appearing in relief for the Yankees earlier this month and entering the game as a pinch-hitter in the third inning for Didi Gregorius on Sunday, the rookie first baseman slugged a line drive solo home run off of Los Angeles Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw to extend New York's lead to 3-1.
The sixth-inning blast couldn't have come at a better time. The Dodgers' offense has had no trouble snatching victory from the jaws of defeat this year with late-inning heroics, so every run matters for the Yankees as they progress through the game.
His sixth home run of the year was the Yankees' third off of Kershaw on the night, and just their fourth hit of the game, but it could prove to be the difference-maker.
