VIDEO: MLB Finally Figured Out How to Market Mike Trout With Latest All-Star Game Ad
By Sean Facey
It took the MLB eight and a half years to sort out how to sell their greatest athlete, but they've finally done it. After bemoaning the fact that Mike Trout hasn't done enough to market himself, the league produced a stellar commercial featuring him ahead of the 2019 All-Star Game.
It's the perfect advertisement for the mild-mannered Trout. The video speaks to who he is both as a person and a ballplayer. He's someone who loves the game above all else.
Trout and the league have been at odds over how he's branded himself for quite some time now. Commissioner Rob Manfred has said that he needs to do more, and Trout has maintained that he plans to go about the process in his own way.
This is the perfect way to appease both parties. He wants to be known as the quiet superstar who shows up every day to give his team a chance to win, the league wants him to put himself out there, and this advertisement addresses both of those desires.
