VIDEO: Nationals' Matt Adams Throws Miserably Bad Ball to 2nd Base That Nearly Plunks Amed Rosario
By Jerry Trotta
Washington Nationals' veteran first baseman Matt Adams returned to the field for the first time in roughly three weeks for Wednesday night's game against the New York Mets, after missing 15 games with a left shoulder strain. And it would appear, however, that the 30-year-old is still shaking off the rust as he turned a potential tailor-made, inning-ending double play into second and third with one out with an egregious throwing error that you have to see to believe.
He was literally centimeters away from plunking Amed Rosario, with the throw ending up wide right of second base.
Tonight's game marked the first time that Washington had a natural first baseman in the lineup since Adams' injury. Under most circumstances, that's good news for a club. Perhaps the Nats are regretting not sending Adams on a rehab assignment.
