VIDEO: Nationals' Yan Gomes Smacks Deep Double to Draw First Blood in NLCS
By Jerry Trotta
If you think the Washington Nationals are still getting over their electric come-from-behind victory to down the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS, well, think again. On the road at Busch Stadium for Game 1 of the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night, the Nats managed to get on the board first in the top of the second frame when Yan Gomes ripped a double into the left-center field gap to plate Howie Kendrick and give Washington a 1-0 lead.
Folks, that about as juicy of a hanging breaking ball that a professional hitter can be treated to, and Miles Mikolas should be thanking his lucky stars that Gomes didn't get enough power behind his swing to drive it over the wall.
