VIDEO: Nestor Cortes Completely Fools Rowdy Tellez With Delayed Delivery
By Brian Cass
Hitting balls at the major league level is already hard enough as it is, which is why a .300 batting average is considered great in the MLB. But when you add in a delayed delivery to keep the batter on his toes, hitting that pitch becomes nearly impossible. New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes pulled that trick out in Tuesday's ball game against the Toronto Blue Jays, leaving Rowdy Tellez searching for answers.
Even the best sluggers would have had trouble judging that pitch, let alone Rowdy Tellez, who has a .230 average on the season.
We're not even sure why Cortes decided to pull out that delayed delivery, but it was effective. He pauses at the top of his wind up and then explodes with his side-armed delivery. Try timing that!
