VIDEO: Nets and Timberwolves Gave NBA Fans Awesome Overtime Thriller With High-Scoring Affair
By Chris Pyo
The Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves delivered a wild season opener in New York that went to overtime. Unfortunately for the home fans, Kyrie Irving missed a last-second shot and the Wolves escaped with a victory.
It's a tough first loss for Kyrie and Co., although Irving himself had an absolutely sensational game with 50 points, setting a Nets record for the highest-scoring debut in team history.
Timberwolves stud big man Karl-Anthony Towns also had himself a monster game in typical KAT fashion, putting up 36 points and 14 rebounds. The guy's going to be a double-double machine all year again if he can stay healthy and focused.
Towns also had seven threes in the game. Seven! He's going to be even more dangerous to opposing NBA teams now that he's added a 3-point shot to his arsenal.
For the Nets, Caris LeVert put up a line of 20/5/4, while Taurean Prince put up 15 points and 11 rebounds in support of Kyrie's effort.
On the Timberwolves' side, former No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Robert Covington and Jeff Teague put up 15 and 14 points, respectively.
After Tuesday night's entertaining slate and this rollercoaster game, it's safe to say we're in for a good NBA season.
