VIDEO: New York Tennis Fans Boo Novak Djokovic After He Retires Down 2 Sets at US Open

There are no fans like those in the Big Apple, even when attending a sport which, for the most part, encourages polite support from tennis faithful. In the US Open Round of 16 on Sunday night, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was faced with a daunting challenge down two sets to Swiss challenger Stan Wawrinka. Rather than remain in the match and mount a comeback, Djokovic retired, citing injury and thus ending his quest for another major. The fans...were not kind.
Djokovic hadn't practiced for the last several days, so the idea he would simply quit while down is preposterous by nature. Djoker has a history of getting upset and in his emotions at big tournaments, but we haven't seen that side of him in years.
Not to mention, Djokovic lost by a combined four games in two sets, meaning a comeback wasn't farfetched against the likes of Wawrinka.
Djokovic's most recent major title, an excellent match against the legend Roger Federer, left tennis fans wanting more and expecting him to continue his recent run in Queens. Instead, he'll leave to a chorus of boos and disappointment.
