VIDEO: Nick Markakis Gives Braves Huge Lead With 3-Run Blast off Cubs' Yu Darvish
By Michael Luciano
The nightmarish 2019 season for Chicago Cubs starter Yu Darvish is getting a lot worse. After giving up a monstrous solo home run to Brian McCann, Darvish quickly put the Cubs in a 5-0 hole, serving up a meatball to Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis. The 35-year-old outfielder, who came into this game hitting .271, blasted his seventh home run of the year to get the rout started at Wrigley Field.
While Markakis continues to show off how deep the Braves lineup is, Darvish keeps serving up gopher ball after gopher ball, as his 18 home runs allowed is already the third most he has ever surrendered in a season. Mind you, it's late June.
While Darvish tries in vain to figure out why he keeps leaving balls right down the middle, Markakis has the Braves well on their way to widening the gap between them and the rest of the pack in the NL East.
