VIDEO: Nick Markakis Puts Braves Ahead of Nationals Early With 2-Run Single on Sunday Night Baseball
By Scott Rogust
The Atlanta Braves have had some stiff competition in the form of the Washington Nationals, who took two of the first three games of their weekend series. On Sunday, Nick Markakis ensured Atlanta wouldn't be on the losing end early on against their NL East foe. With runners on second and third, Markakis took a Joe Ross pitch and sent it to shallow right field, effectively emptying the bases to give the Braves an early 2-0 lead.
The Braves certainly hope the early lead will be enough against the surging Nationals on Sunday because they can't afford to have the gap narrowed in the division.
