VIDEO: Nick Saban's Statement on Giving Players a 2nd Chance is Everything You Need to Hear
By Sean Facey

Nick Saban has earned himself a stellar reputation as a football coach. He's the mastermind behind the dynasty of the Alabama Crimson Tide. But what makes him so good at what he does is his ability to speak to the heart of issues. The famed head coach took some time to talk about discipline and giving players a second chance, and it's everything that you need to hear.
As great of a coach as he is, I honestly wonder if we’re wasting Nick Saban on football. Guy absolutely kills it when he talks about larger societal issues. pic.twitter.com/qsdxwera2n

He spoke at great length about how society as a whole focuses specifically on punishment for players who slip up rather than trying to get to the root of the problem which led them astray in the first place.
Saban was extremely critical of the fact that everyone is ready to cast these players, most of whom are just barely in their 20s, aside as soon as they make a mistake.

“The TRUTH is very complex —
We all have to tell the truth —
We all have to live the truth —
The hardest thing is you have to
believe the truth when somebody
tells us we need to improve
— & if you don’t believe the truth —
you’re never going to improve.” pic.twitter.com/1DwcF75G3z
Everything he said was right. We spend too much time focusing on punishment and not enough time on forgiveness, especially in the case of these young players who are still trying to find their way in the world.
This is the line of thinking that the college sports world needs. Saban isn't excusing misconduct, but he's trying to find a way to make it so these players can keep their lives together while ensuring they stay out of trouble in the future, and that's admirable.
