VIDEO: Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts Gives Signed Ball to Sooners Superfan With Special Needs
Sometimes the side stories that drive our love for sports can be celebrated by everybody, no matter what team you support. Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts is having a special season on the field, but that doesn't appear to have taken any of his focus away from helping others off of the gridiron, too. Hurts had an opportunity to catch up with Rayden Overbay, a Sooners fan with special needs this weekend, and he made that interaction special from Minute One.
Of course, this comes naturally to the Sooners' leader; both of Hurts' parents are special education teachers by trade. As the man himself put it to The Athletic, "I guess it’s just kind of in the Hurts blood."
It's pretty awesome that Hurts tweeted about this interaction as well, so no doubt the fan will be able to go home and see that Hurts put him up on his page.
Of course, this is far from the only time Hurts has been up to good deeds during his downtime.
It's always amazing to see athletes use their platforms to make positive change. Even if it's one life affected at a time, professional athletes of the highest level have the power to make people's lives better whenever they step off the field and into society.
Even though it's not required, the world would be a better place if all athletes used their platform for positive messages and interactions at least as often as Jalen Hurts does.
