VIDEO: Orioles' Hanser Alberto Breaks up Rays' Combined Perfect Game Bid in 9th
By Karl Rasmussen
The Tampa Bay Rays were on the verge of pulling off a combined perfect game against their AL East rival Orioles. Entering the ninth frame, Ryan Yarbrough was facing O's infielder Hanser Alberto, who managed to beat the shift with an opposite field ground ball, reaching first base safely and putting an end to the perfect game bid.
Yarbrough went on to surrender a run in the inning, but ultimately the game was closed out by Emilio Pagan, who picked up his sixth save of the season.
The Rays used an opener, Ryne Stanek, for two innings, before Yarbrough entered in relief and pitched 6.1 innings. Not quite, though.
