VIDEO: Orioles Prospect DL Hall Gets Hit With Shattered Bat During Futures Game
By Adam Weinrib
He dealt a scoreless inning on the mound, but it didn't come without a brush with disaster. Baltimore lefty DL Hall came in to chuck the top of the third for the American League in Sunday's Futures Game in Cleveland, but had to dodge a busted bat hurtling towards him in the process. Luckily, it seems Hall escaped without any serious damage, as the business end of the woodwork avoided his skin.
The 20-year-old Hall, Baltimore's first-round pick in 2017, has whiffed 80 in 53.2 innings at High Single-A, and can add one more whiff to his collection: the well-executed dodge of this lumber.
The Futures Game, an annual showcase of the best that the MLB's minor league systems have to offer, has been dominated by the arms thus far on Sunday night. It's the one night per year when Baltimore's future is put on display by the league, and you'd hate for O's fans to have to grimace while watching such things.
Luckily, Hall seems to have averted disaster.
