VIDEO: Oscar Mercado Protects Indians' Lead With Perfect Throw to Get Yoan Moncada at Home Plate
By Daniel Marcillo
The White Sox thought they had a chance to pull within one run of the Indians on Eloy Jimenez's bloop single, but Indians center fielder Oscar Mercado made sure that did not happen. He fired a one hop strike to Roberto Perez that gunned down Yoan Moncada at the plate.
Mercado has made six errors in the outfield during his rookie season but has also showcased a strong arm and the ability to cover a ton of ground.
The assist was his fifth of the season and he made it look easy. We may want to point the finger at the third base coach here, as Moncada even slowed down around the bag, looking a bit surprised he was being sent on a ball that shallow.
