VIDEO: Paul Goldschmidt Delivers Decisive Blow Against Pirates With 3-Run Blast in 7th Inning
By Charles Nason
The St. Louis Cardinals were in danger of losing a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. That was, until Paul Goldschmidt stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out and a pair of runners on base.
Goldschmidt's 3-run blast gave the Cards a 6-4 lead over the Pirates, which was just enough to get the job done. Despite plating one in the ninth, the Buccos fell just short of Goldschmidt and the Cardinals, giving St. Louis a 2-1 series victory.
The home run was Goldschmidt's 18th of the season, adding to the offensive tear he's been on lately. He and the Cardinals kick off a series with the Cincinnati Reds starting Thursday.
