VIDEO: Pete Alonso Breaks Darryl Strawberry's Mets Rookie Home Run Record With Latest Blast
By Michael Luciano

If you're a New York Met and you're breaking records that were set by Darryl Strawberry, you're doing something right at the plate. Despite the fact that it's only June 23, rookie first baseman Pete Alonso has set a new Mets record for the most home runs by a rookie when he launched his 27th home run of the year. His historic home run off of Cole Hamels.
The @Mets rookie HR record belongs to @Pete_Alonso20.

In a season where little has gone right for the Mets, Alonso continues to mash at a rate on par with the best sluggers in all of baseball.
Of his 27 home runs, most of them, this one included, are bombs. With an exit velocity of 110 MPH and a distance on 453 feet, Alonso obliterated that Hamels changeup.

The rest of the year will be rough sledding for the Mets, but at least Alonso is here to destroy baseballs at a historic pace.
