Pete Alonso just keeps on doing what he can to keep the New York Mets in postseason contention, including breaking all sorts of team records. This time, he's set a new record previously held by beloved former captain David Wright.
Yet another milestone:

With that single, Alonso broke the Mets single-season total base record, now up to 335, as a rookie. Alonso's fantastic debut campaign continues as he's hit an astounding 50 home runs and 115 RBI to go with a solid .264 average.
He's a shoo-in for the NL Rookie of the Year, and he may be single-handedly keeping the Mets' postseason hopes alive, although that flame might have been extinguished after this past weekend where the Mets moved to 4.5 games out of the second NL Wild Card spot.
At least Mets fans can look forward to seeing whether Alonso will break Aaron Judge's rookie season record of 52 home runs. That would at least give the Mets faithful something to brag about to their Subway Series rivals.
