VIDEO: Pete Alonso Extends MLB Home Run Lead With 47th Bomb of the Year
By Jerry Trotta
Could Pete Alonso be on his way to becoming the first rookie in MLB history to hoist the Home Run crown? Coming into Monday night, the New York Mets phenom was tied with Mike Trout at 45 dingers apiece. Ever-aware of the Angels superstar's presence, the Polar Bear decided to stimulate the pressure against the Diamondbacks with not one, but two big fly's through seven innings. His second, No.47 of 2019, was a MISSILE that he launched over the left field bleachers.
The race for the elusive crown hasn't seen a two-homer lead in quite some time. Thanks to Pete's display on Monday, however, that is no longer the case and the chase just became that much more captivating.
Your move, Mr. Trout.
