VIDEO: Pete Alonso Inches Closer to Aaron Judge's Rookie Home Run Record With 51st Blast
By Jerry Trotta
You just knew it would come down to the final week of the 2019 regular season, right? Though the New York Mets' postseason fate has been all but sealed heading into Wednesday (the Brewers' magic number is one), Pete Alonso still has his fair share of work cut out for him. He's leading the race for MLB's home run crown and was just two dingers shy of tying Aaron Judge's rookie single-season record. Well, the Polar Bear extended his lead and closed the aforementioned gap with one swing of the bat against the Marlins, sending homer No. 51 DEEP into the Citi Field night.
A 437-foot blast to left center field? We wouldn't expect Alonso to inch closer to baseball history any other way.
The rookie phenom now has four games left in 2019 to tie or possibly even break Judge's remarkable record.
