VIDEO: Pete Alonso's Home Run Derby Strategy is Absolutely Flawless
By Jerry Trotta
We are truly running out of words to describe Pete Alonso. The rookie phenom clubbed his 30th home run of the first half of the season on Sunday. The opposite field shot stood as a perfect warm-up for Monday's Home Run Derby, where he will face off-against Carlos Santana in the first round. Well, after Sunday's game against the Phillies, reporters asked New York's slugger what his strategy was for tomorrow's showdown in Cleveland and his response was perfect.
As Pete generally does, he followed up his moment of confidence with a little bit of humility and professionalism, acknowledging that teammates Robinson Cano and Todd Frazier, past Derby champs, gave him tremendous advice about the event.
If you watch closely, Alonso was ready to answer before the reporter even finished his question, eager to let the world know about his fool-proof plan to winning the event.
Pete is just itching to get out there tomorrow night.
To be fair, we can't even label Alonso's approach to club more homers than everybody else as brazen, simply because nobody in the Derby field has recorded as many big fly's as him thus far in 2019 (Christian Yelich has 31 to his name but withdrew due to injury).
And given the historic rate that Pete's been mashing this season, can you really bet against him with confidence?
