VIDEO: Pirates Overcome Multiple 3-Run Deficits to Beat Padres on Bases-Loaded Walk in Extras
By Sam Dunn
The Pittsburgh Pirates were just about dead to rights down 7-4 to the Padres in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday at PNC Park. They somehow found a way to force extra innings, but were once again in a hole after San Diego plated three runs in the top of the 11th. And apparently, that was all the motivation the Buccos needed.
These guys are tenacious as it gets. Scratching and clawing for every last chance, the Pirates finished things up with a bases-loaded walk in to give them 11 runs for the game -- nearly triple what they had in their first eight innings -- and sealing the unlikely victory.
Enjoy this one, Pittsburgh! The Iron City really showed its steel.
