VIDEO: Random Heckler Got Yasmani Grandal to Admit He Hoped White Sox Would Pay Him During Season
By Chris Pyo
In some psychic baseball action, a couple of random hecklers at Wrigley Field were chirping at then-Milwaukee Brewers catcher Yasmani Grandal and actually predicted his free agency plans down to a tee. The hecklers were talking to Grandal while he was in the on-deck circle and told him that the White Sox were going to pay him a lot of money this offseason. Grandal responded by saying, "Hopefully."
Well, low and behold, Grandal ended up signing a four-year, $73 million contract with the White Sox just a couple of days ago. In fact, that was the richest contract they've ever handed out in their lengthy history.
According to the guy's Twitter profile, he lists that he's a White Sox fan. In that case, props to the guy for going undercover to Wrigley Field and planting the idea of signing with the White Sox in Grandal's mind.
Of course, the money didn't hurt either. With this contract, Grandal becomes the third-highest paid catcher in the MLB, behind Buster Posey and Yadier Molina. He earned it by hitting 28 home runs and driving in 77 RBI while supplying the Brewers with stellar defense behind the plate.
Now, he'll try to help lead a White Sox franchise that's only sniffed the playoffs once in the past 14 years. White Sox fans are getting restless, and this particular fan made sure to get a head start on recruiting Grandal to the South Side. His efforts paid off, clearly.
