VIDEO: Random YouTuber Accuses Patriots of Cheating vs Cowboys With Laughable 'Evidence'
By Scott Rogust
This past Sunday featured a huge matchup between the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys. The game was marred due to rainfall and some brutal tripping penalties called by the referees. Apparently, that wasn't the only controversy to occur. One random YouTuber, Gerald Serano, created a video suggesting that there was a conspiracy involving the Patriots. On a second quarter possession by the Cowboys, the on-field official moved the first-down marker from the 15-yard line to the 14.
What a conspiracy! Well, actually no. This is a case of referee ineptitude, which has been a common occurrence this season.
Quarterback Dak Prescott completed a 22-yard pass to receiver Michael Gallup, setting them up at New England's 29-yard line. However, defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. was called for roughing the passer on Prescott, resulting in a 15-yard penalty after the reception.
The referee did the math incorrectly. Instead of moving the first down marker to the 14, he moved it to the 15. He obviously realized it and made the correction. At the end of the day, it didn't play a major factor in the game, as the Cowboys could only muster a field goal on that red zone drive.
Conspiracy? No. Poor officiating? Yes.
