VIDEO: Raptors Release Tribute Clip Thanking Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green
Their championship season is barely in the books, but the Toronto Raptors are already losing the pieces that provided them their first ever NBA title. But there are no hard feelings, of course. Just thanks for a great ride. On Saturday, the Raptors released a warm farewell video to thank Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and 3-and-D whiz Danny Green for their brief but memorable stints with the team.
As essential parts of their first Larry O'Brien, it only seems right that the Six says thanks.
After what seemed like forever, the NBA's most-wanted free agent, Kawhi Leonard, made his decision to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers on a four-year, $142 million dollar deal. Soon after the decision was published, the world found out that Paul George would be following Kawhi to the Clippers in a trade that included a record number of future draft picks and potential pick swaps.
Danny Green decided to step away from the team to join the other Los Angeles locker room in a two-year, $30 million deal with the Lakers. He is one more piece to a vastly unfinished puzzle that the Lakers are still trying to figure out. Green will be joining LeBron James, his former Cavaliers teammate, as well as Anthony Davis.
With these deals in the books, it looks like the West will be decided in a Staples Center showdown next season. But that doesn't change what Leonard and Green accomplished in Toronto. That championship will be celebrated for years to come.
