VIDEO: Rays' Blake Snell Had NSFW Reaction Live on Twitch After Finding Out Tommy Pham Was Traded
By Michael Luciano
The Tampa Bay Rays made a pretty substantial trade under cover of darkness on Thursday night, as they shipped Tommy Pham, who hit 21 home runs and stole 25 bases last year, to the San Diego Padres in exchange for slugging outfielder Hunter Renfroe and Top-100 prospect, shortstop Xavier Edwards. Despite the extra power in the lineup, Rays starter Blake Snell wasn't thrilled about Pham being shipped across the country, and offered a scathing review of this trade ... live on Twitch when he was gaming.
Imagine you start a new job and before you even get there one of the most experienced employees tears you to shreds. That's the situation Renfroe is walking in to.
To be fair, Renfroe did hit 33 home runs in 140 games in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park, so playing indoors in Tampa could help those numbers spike. Edwards hit .322 with 34 stoles bases at just 19 years old last season, and he's only going to get better. Cheer up, Blake!
This looked like a pretty even trade from a pure baseball perspective, but this may have created some tension in the Rays locker room. Renfroe and Edwards better start mashing instantly, or else they might be hearing it from Snell.
