VIDEO: Refs Make Awful OPI Call on Diontae Johnson TD and Don't Overturn it Despite Challenge
By Mark Powell
Another preseason game, another example of the referees completely blowing the new pass interference challenge rule. Officials made a brutal call on Diontae Johnson, who is fighting for a spot in Pittsburgh's crowded receiving corps. Johnson made a nice catch and shoved the Chiefs CB to the ground for a score. Somehow, someway, the refs deemed this OPI despite the very limited contact.
Mike Tomlin challenged the call, but it was upheld...for reasons we don't quite understand. If decisions like these aren't overturned, then what's the point of giving coaches the opportunity to challenge in the first place? All it does it give fans something else to complain about.
