VIDEO: Refs Totally Screwed Michigan With Bogus Incomplete Pass Call Against Wisconsin
By Kevin Aquino
Just to be sure, the NCAA Football rules indicate that a player "must maintain complete and continuous control of the ball through the process of contacting the ground" in order for a catch to be complete, and even though Michigan's Ronnie Bell did just that against Wisconsin, the referees thought otherwise.
If the ball bounced off the ground, it wouldn't line up with complete and continuous control, but it looks like Bell's arm breaks his fall, causing the ball to travel within his arms a bit. Yet, the ball doesn't ever leave his grasp. It looks like Bell maintained control of the ball, meaning the pass should've been ruled complete.
The Wolverines find themselves in a hole against their Big Ten rivals, and though this play wasn't in the end zone, it certainly didn't help Michigan build any momentum.
