VIDEO: Rex Ryan Crowns Daniel Jones as the 'Best Quarterback in New York' Over Jets' Sam Darnold
By Jerry Trotta
New York Giants fans have every right to feel euphoric following Sunday's come-from-behind victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After all, rookie quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 353 yards to go with four touchdowns. The performance has caused an uproar of reactionary hot takes among pundits around the NFL. ESPN analyst and former Jets head coach Rex Ryan led that charge on "Get Up" Monday morning by claiming Danny Dimes is the supreme gunslinger in the Big Apple over Sam Darnold.
We'll credit Ryan for backing the G-Men's largely criticized selection of DJ back in April, but to come out and call him a better QB than Darnold after just four quarters is as air-headed as it gets.
Yes, Jones was spectacular and virtually blew everybody's minds on Sunday, but lets see the former Duke Blue Devil do it against a squad that doesn't rank 20th in the league in terms of passing yards allowed per game before we call him better than a QB who impressed with virtually ZERO talent around him in his rookie season.
More importantly, let's compare Jones and Darnold when the former has a full campaign under his belt. It doesn't take a football expert to label Ryan's appraise entirely premature and inane.
Give his play some time to breath for Pete's sake.
