VIDEO: Ric Bucher Claims Andre Iguodala's Game 2 Dagger Was a 'Boneheaded Shot'
By Max Scoli
Andre Iguodala hit a truly clutch three-pointer in the final seconds of Game 2 of the NBA Finals to put the Warriors' lead out of reach of the hometown Toronto Raptors. But if you ask insider Ric Bucher, the shot really shouldn't have taken it at all. In fact, he describes Iggy's decision to shoot as being quite dumb.
Yes, Bucher played Ivy League soccer in college, so it's easy to blast him for this roundball take. The look on Jason Whitlock's face says it all. The fact remains that Iguodala was WIDE open and would have been crazy to pass up the shot. The Warriors were up two so the Raptors shoul have been looking to foul-- what else should the former Finals MVP have possibly done?
The situation absolutely demanded it. If he passes the ball to his nearest teammate, DeMarcus Cousins in this case, the big man would presumably get fouled and go to the line for two shots. That's a big risk considering Cousins shot 73.6% from the charity stripe in the regular season. If he misses one, it's a three-point game and Toronto has a chance to tie it with a few seconds left on the clock.
By taking the three, a shot that Iguodala has proven he can knock down over the course of his career when the way is clear, the Warriors put the game to bed on the road. He had already knocked down a three earlier in the contest, finishing the game 2-4 from deep.
And yet, Bucher wants you to believe this was "boneheaded."
Please.
