VIDEO: Rob Gronkowski's Big Announcement Was That He's Hosting a Dumb Super Bowl Party in Miami
By Jerry Trotta
Eligible to come off of the NFL's reserve/retired list by Nov.30, Rob Gronkowski teased New England Patriots fans on Sunday by disclosing that he would be making a "big announcement" on Tuesday. Skeptics and pundits followed suit by contemplating the likelihood of Gronk returning to the gridiron for the final stretch of the 2019 season. Of course, Pats owner Robert Kraft, ever wary of that Nov. 30 deadline, recently reached out to the All-Pro tight end to discuss a return. Well, the announcement has been declared, and it was a colossal letdown.
Gronkowski unveiled he's scheduled to host a pre-Super Bowl LIV party on Feb. 1 at Miami Beach. Is it fair to say that even Foxborough cynics are a little annoyed with these developments?
Though we believed that Gronk wouldn't reveal he'd be lacing up the cleats again, the potential of a "big announcement" rightfully got our hopes up. This could have been a declaration of his future partnership with WWE or even a coaching role he'd take with the Patriots next season.
Instead, he's hosting a freaking Super Bowl event. We shouldn't have overlooked this. Gronk's true brand is being a party animal. All that NFL Hall of Fame talk is secondary.
Nonetheless, this is just further confirmation that even slight expectations often come with immense disappointments.
