VIDEO: Royals Catcher Martin Maldonado Wears a Tie During Game to Honor His Dad on Father's Day
By Michael Luciano

Apparently the Kansas City Royals went business casual for their Father's Day matinee against the Minnesota Twins, with catcher Martin Maldonado potentially inciting the ire of the baseball fashion police thanks to a clip-on tie that he was wearing as a way of honoring his father.
This HAS to be a first. Martín Maldonado is sporting a tie over his catcher's gear and it's incredible. ?#AlwaysRoyal | #Royals pic.twitter.com/My74ZhE1Vz

Maldonado wrote some names on the tie, but it remains unclear who they are or what the significance of the names is. Either way, it's still very unique and a really clever move by Maldonado, even if he likely has a fine coming his way.
This is so badass

When you clip a tie on to your chest protector, you'd better go out there and perform. To Maldonado's credit, he did just that, slapping an RBI single off of Twins starter Martin Perez to give the Royals an early 2-0 lead at Target Field.
Martin Maldonado comes through in the Battle of the Martins with an opposite-field single off of Martin Perez to drive in a run. The Twins are down 2-0 in the second.

While the MLB is decked out in power blue today to honor dads everywhere, Maldonado wasn't content with just wearing a fancy cap to pay homage to his father.
