VIDEO: Russian Hockey Goalie Given AK47 as Player of the Game Award
By Parker White

When a player earns Player of the Game honors, it's not out of the ordinary for said player to get a plaque or trophy from his teammates to celebrate the achievement.
In Russia, you could say they go a little bit overboard.
Russian goalie Saveli Kononov of the VHL (a hockey league one tier below the KHL) was selected as player of the game, and won a ridiculous prize. Kononov won a freaking AK-47 assault rifle, which he proudly posed with in the locker room afterwards.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that this happened over in Russia, but the dude received a weapon for having a good game in net. You don't have to be against the 2nd Amendment in this country to find this absolutely ridiculous.
Kononov was handed the honors (and the assault rifle) after recording an impressive 36 saves in the game.

If this is the reward for the best player in a single game, we can't wait to see what the league MVP trophy looks like.
