VIDEO: Sam Darnold Tries to Explain 'Seeing Ghosts' Comment and Doesn't Make it Any Better
By Jerry Trotta
To say that the New England Patriots defense gave Sam Darnold fits wouldn't even begin to describe the manner in which they rattled the New York Jets' young gunslinger on Monday Night Football. In fact, the 22-year-old quarterback was mic'd up for the showdown and was caught saying he was "seeing ghosts" out on the gridiron. It's the type of excerpt that will likely live with Darnold for the remainder of his NFL career, and he was subsequently asked to dissect it while speaking to reporters after the loss:
"When I talk to coaches, I just gotta be straight up," said Darnold. "And for me, I just gotta see the field a lot better. That's kind of what that means. It was a rough night out there, and obviously I got to get better, and learn from the mistakes. But we will get better."
Well, that interpretation certainly won't make things better for the former No. 3 overall pick.
We admire Darnold is acknowledging his pitiful performance, but giving the media what they want to hear isn't always the best avenue to travel down.
Darnold has shown significant promise in the early stages of his career, but his play and explanation of allegedly "seeing ghosts" on Monday night proved that he still has A LOT of maturing to do.
