VIDEO: Scott Kingery Clears Bases in Bottom of the 8th to Give Phillies Late Lead Over Mets
By Jerry Trotta
We wouldn't call the Philadelphia Phillies' showdown against the New York Mets on Sunday a must-win scenario for Gabe Kapler's club, but getting swept at home to a divisional rival you're trying to make up ground in a Wild Card race is just not a good look. Well, Philly perfectly positioned themselves to break the game open in the bottom of the eighth inning by loading the bases against Jeurys Familia. And Scott Kingery did just that by lacing a fastball into the left-center field gap to drive home three runs and put the game to bed.
Just what the doctor ordered!
The Phils would win the game moments later as closer Hector Neris made light work of the Amazins in the top half of the ninth to end the two-game skid.
