VIDEO: Shohei Ohtani Slugs a Massive Birthday Bomb off Justin Verlander
By Scott Rogust
Los Angeles Angels pitcher/slugger Shohei Ohtani celebrated his 25th birthday on Friday. And did he ever find a way to celebrate it. Already with a 2-1 lead over the Houston Astros, Ohtani stepped up to the plate in the top of the third inning to face pitcher Justin Verlander. Ohtani took a pitch high in the strike zone deep to dead-center field to give the Angels a 3-1 lead.
A very happy birthday, indeed, for Shohei Ohtani, as that blast was his 13th of the season as he's been making up for lost time, even against the best pitchers in the league.
The now-25-year-old will look to return to being one of the league's few two-way players in 2019, but for now he's focusing on continuing his excellence at the plate.
