VIDEO: Spurs Honor Tony Parker By Retiring His Jersey in San Antonio Monday Night
By Michael Luciano
Tony Parker was the man running the point for 17 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, all the while serving as the catalyst for one of the most dominant dynasties in modern sports history. After his brief one-year exodus in Charlotte, Parker retired, and the Spurs welcomed him back to San Antonio by hanging his No. 9 jersey in the rafters.
If there was an individual or team accomplishment to earn, Parker did it. A six-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA player, Parker averaged 15.5 points and 5.6 assists-per-game over his 18-year career.
He saved his best moments for the playoffs, as he won four championships, averaged 17.9 points-per-game in the postseason, and took home a Finals MVP in 2007.
The prototypical distributing point guard, Parker's influence on the game both domestically and in his native France can't be understated.
Parker was the engine that drove the Spurs dynasty for the better part of two decades. We're already looking forward to his eventual enshrinement in the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.
