VIDEO: Starling Marte Oddly Declines to Take Base After Hit by Pitch and Later Gets Caught Stealing
By Ryan Giglio

Well, you certainly don't see this every day. Starling Marte was in the batter's box against Jack Flaherty on Tuesday and after a pitch appeared to clip Marte's hand, he was awarded first base by the home plate umpire. Instead of accepting the free bag, Marte decided to decline and continue his at-bat, during which he grounded into a fielder's choice, but reached first base.

Well, at least he got to first base, right? Unfortunately, the tale does not end there, as Marte's idiotic decision-making continued, with the center fielder getting thrown out trying to steal second base, effectively costing his team two outs when he could have had a free base on balls.
